In the mix of some early-semester hysteria and personal tragedies, I felt it necessary to treat myself to Subway before the library opened. After bumping into some friends and devouring a sandwich, it was time to drive back through Bennington and camp outside the mansion door until the library opened. In the center of town, I noticed a large fly on the windshield. I instinctively turned the windshield wipers on and they pushed him across the glass, half of his body crushed beneath their weight. I flicked them on a second time and his entire body was squashed. As the blades retracted, the frail insect’s body was flung into the air and then blown back into my driver’s window, landing right in my lap. I looked down at its body now vacant of life, and then at my index finger that took its life with two casual flicks.
level up?
Ah, the executioner’s remorse. 🙂
